European Standards fall into two categories:
- Harmonised standards that give a presumption of conformity with the PPE directive.
- Draft European standards relating to the PPE Directive.

- EN463: 1994 - Protective clothing - Protection against liquid chemicals - Test method: Determination of resistance to penetration by a jet of liquid (Jet Test).

- EN863:1995 - Protective clothing - Mechanical properties - Test method: Puncture resistance.
- EN943-1: 2002 - Protective clothing for use against liquid and gaseous chemicals, including liquid aerosols and solid particles - Performance requirements for ventilated and non-ventilated "gas-tight" (Type 1) and "non-gas-tight" (Type 2) protective clothing.
- EN943-2: 2002 - Protective clothing for use against liquid and gaseous chemicals, including liquid aerosols and solid particles - Part 2: Performance requirements "gas-tight" (Type 1) chemical protective suits for emergency teams (ET).
Draft European Standards relating to the PPE Directive:
These standards are at the stage of public enquiry or – if having passed this stage – still having to be formally adopted as EN standards.
Attention should be drawn to the fact that the above indicated draft standards can be subject to substantial modification before their adoption.
